Layla is a full-foam, flippable bed with both soft and firm sides. This versatile bed is also made with memory foam that’s copper-infused, providing some cooling power.
Are you curious to find out if customizable comfort is right for you? You can read my complete Layla mattress review right now! We’ll be discussing the construction of the mattress, its feel, as well as comparing it to the best brands in the market. We’ll wrap it up with some final pros and cons to help you decide if this is the right bed for you.
Are the Layla Mattress Good for You?
The Layla mattress may or may not suit your needs depending on how you sleep, such as your preferred position and body weight. Below are some of my suggestions.
Layla mattress recommended to me by a friend
The Layla mattress is a flippable, flippable mattress that can be used in two firmness levels: firm and soft. Side sleepers will love the deep sinkage of the Layla’s soft side. I recommend the firm side. For stomach sleepers who require extra support to align their hips with their shoulders, the firm side of the Layla is an excellent choice.
The Layla could make a happy couple. The Layla has low motion transfer so you won’t feel your partner turning and tossing.
Layla is a memory foam-like feel that should please anyone who loves it. The Layla has a classic memory foam feel, with a slow response time to pressure and lots of contouring.
Layla mattress not recommended by me
Layla won’t provide the support that they need for heavier people (over 250 lbs). The Layla is a great choice for these people, as it has reinforced coils and foams.
For couples, a responsive mattress is better. Layla’s bed feels more “inside” than “on top”, which makes it harder to switch between positions.
How Firm Is the Layla Mattress?
We now have a good idea of the Layla’s inner workings, so let’s start to feel how it feels.
Firmness, like any other feel factor, is subjective and can vary based on body size, shape and weight. My perception of the firmness of this bed could be different from yours. Referring to my height, I am approximately 5’10” and 190 lbs. I prefer to sleep on my stomach.
The Layla mattress has two firmness options and flippable support levels. This bed received a 5.5 rating on the firmness scale. On the “Firm”, I scored a 7.5/10. These scores are quite extreme considering that medium firmness is an industry standard of 6.5.
“Soft” side: I felt my body sink into the copper-infused memory foam as soon as I climbed onto the Layla’s soft configuration. I felt the memory foam “hug” as it wrapped around my shoulders, hips and lower back. This feel is best for side sleepers and those who need deep pressure relief at their joints.
“Firm side”: It was quite different on the “Firm side”. The bed becomes extremely supportive by swapping the 3″ top layer memory foam for a 1-inch layer. The bed has very little contouring, creating a “on top” feel. This feel is best for back sleepers who need firm support in the hips or lumbar region.
Layla Mattress Performance
Your individual requirements and sleep needs will affect the Layla’s performance. This includes your body weight, your sleep habits, and pain levels. Below is how we calculated the Layla’s performance.
The Layla Mattress is tested in different sleeping positions
Different weights will have different experiences with the Layla. The Layla’s reaction to light, medium, and heavy sleepers will vary depending on the position they are in.
The Layla is a good mattress for light sleepers (under 130 lbs).
Light Back Sleepers – Light back sleepers may find the Layla’s soft side too soft and the Layla’s firm side too firm. Light back sleepers might prefer a mattress with a medium-firm feel.
Light Side Sleepers – Light side sleepers should feel very comfortable on the soft side.
Light Stomach Sleepers – Light stomach sleepers should feel at ease on the firm side.
The Layla is a good mattress for average weight sleepers (130-250 lbs).
Average Weight Back Sleepers – While some may find the Layla’s firmer side to be comfortable, others might find it too rigid for their needs. For average weight back sleepers, the Layla’s soft side is too soft.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – I recommend the Layla’s soft side for average side sleepers.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers-These sleepers will probably feel very comfortable on the firm side.
Are you a heavy sleeper (over 250 lbs) and the Layla a good mattress?
Heavy Back Sleepers – The Layla isn’t supportive enough for heavy people
Heavy Side Sleepers – See above.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers: See the above.
Layla Mattress Pain Relief
Your weight should be evenly distributed on a mattress to alleviate pressure. This prevents or helps relieve pain. If you are experiencing pain in these areas, a mattress that cushions your hips, shoulders and lower back should be considered.
A pressure map was used to measure Layla’s ability to relieve pressure. I placed the pressure map on the mattress, and then I hopped aboard. The map showed me how much pressure I exerted in various positions. The pressure map was created while I lay on my stomach, back and side. The map changes from blue to green when there is low pressure to yellow for high pressure. I recorded both the firm and soft sides of the Layla pressure map results.
Pressure map results on the Layla mattress’ soft side. Pressure map results on the Layla mattress’ firm side. Back pain – If your back hurts, sleeping on your stomach (if you have the ability to manage it) will be the best way to relieve the pain. You can see that my weight was distributed more evenly on the firm side. The firm side of your Layla may be able to provide additional support if you have back pain.
Shoulder Pain – The Layla’s soft side is an option for people who have shoulder pain. Shoulder pain sufferers need to apply pressure at the affected area in order to stop it from getting worse.
Hip Pain – Just like shoulder pain sufferers and hip pain sufferers, people who have to deal with hip pain require a soft mattress to protect their delicate joints. The Layla’s soft side is a good option for hip pain sufferers.
Layla Mattress Performance for Couples
You should consider additional factors such as motion isolation, edge support and cooling when sharing a bed with your partner. Also, be sure to check if the mattress is suitable for sex. Below is how we measured these elements.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to movement that can be detected from one side of a bed to the next. This is important for couples as it indicates whether you will feel your partner’s movements on your side or theirs.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped 10 lb. I dropped a steel ball at heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches. The disturbance it caused was measured.
The Layla mattress has excellent motion transfer results. The thick layer of memory foam on the top of the mattress is what makes this bed stand out. It absorbs motion and transfers it evenly across the bed.
Sex
Couples require a mix of motion transfer and responsiveness to have sex. The best mattress for sex is one that can isolate motion well but has some bounce. Although the Layla is very motion-isolating, the mattress, especially the soft side, isn’t responsive enough to sex.
Cooling
A cooling mattress for couples is essential because two people can overheat much more quickly than one. Thanks to its copper-infused memory foam layer, the Layla provides good cooling. Copper helps to dissipate body heat and prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Despite the fact that Layla’s all-foam mattress doesn’t have a lot of airflow, this bed actually sleeps cool. It’s worth looking into if you are a hot-sleeper.
Edge Support
Edge support is the ability of the edges to support you as you roll towards them or lie on them. Because you can use the entire surface of a mattress with edge support, it can feel larger. Good edge support can also help to prolong the life of your mattress, as it helps to prevent premature sagging.
The Layla provides decent edge support but is not the best. Most foam mattresses are not the strongest, so this was not surprising. However, if you want strong edges, I recommend an innerspring or hybrid mattress.
What is the Layla Mattress Made Of
The Layla mattress is a flippable, which means it can be used on both the firm and soft sides. No matter how the bed is positioned, both sides have top and bottom layers made of memory foam that surround interior sections of poly foam. All Layla foams have been CertiPUR(r) Certified. This means that they are free of harmful chemicals and pollutants. The soft side up configuration was my preferred for this review. However, I will describe both options below.
How does a flippable bed work? Let’s take a look at the cover and find out.
Layla mattress from the Sleepopolis Studio, soft side up
Cover – The Layla covers are made of a thick polyester blend. It has a soft, plush hand feel.
Comfort – The comfort layer is composed of a 3-inch section copper-infused memory foam. Because this material is slow to respond to pressure, it provides plenty of body-contouring as well as sinkage. Memory foam can overheat, but this foam has been infused with cooling copper to keep it low. This layer of memory foam is quite thick, so I can tell that the “Soft” side could be great for side-sleepers (more details later). Transition Layer – Next, you will find a layer of transitional poly foam. This layer is firmer than the one before it. It helps to reduce the memory foam’s sinking and transition the sleeper into firmer base materials.
What exactly is the Support Layer? Layla refers to this 4-inch layer as Support Core Foam. This material is extremely solid and durable, providing the mattress with most its foundational support. This layer acts as the base when orientated with the soft side facing up. This section can be positioned on the firm side of the bed to provide support for the hips and lower back.
Base Layer- The second layer of copper-infused memory is the last. This one is only 1 inch high, so it’s not difficult to feel when the bed’s in its “Soft” position. This would be the comfort layer if you were to turn it. Although it wouldn’t offer as much pressure relief than the copper-infused memory foam of 3 inches, it could provide combo sleepers with a gentle hug at their lumbar.

Layla Mattress Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Layla is a mattress-in-a-box mattress. It will be shipped compressed in a box to you. The mattress does have an off-gassing time during which it releases gasses that were trapped during compression. It is best to wait at least 24 hours for the mattress to fully decompress before you go to sleep on it.
Layla Mattress Review: Final Thoughts
Layla mattress is one of my favorite mattresses
Layla is a memory-foam mattress with the classic feel that many people love. The Layla bed is made up of a large amount of the material. This gives it its signature sinkage and contouring hug. Side sleepers will likely prefer the soft side, while stomach sleepers might prefer the firm side. This bed is also very low in motion transfer, making it a solid choice for couples.
My Layla mattress complaints
The Layla is not a good choice if you are looking for a soft, bouncey bed. The Layla doesn’t have a lot of bounce, so it’s more “stuck in-the-bed” than you’d like. This group of sleepers will need something that has a little more lift so they can be positioned on top.

Layla Vs
You’re probably looking at several brands when you shop online for a mattress. Let’s compare Layla with some of its most popular competitors: the Nectar, Casper and Casper mattresses.
Layla vs Nectar
The Nectar, like the Layla is all-foam, but almost entirely made of memory foam. The mattress has a luxurious feel thanks to its sinkage, body contouring, and pressure relief.
This is why I believe the Nectar might be a good fit for side sleepers who need deep relief at their hips and shoulders.
The Nectar mattress is, in general, similar to the Layla’s soft side.
Layla vs Casper
Casper mattresses are available in both an all foam and hybrid variant. No matter which version you choose, the Casper mattress is a medium-firm bed that is as supportive as it is pressure-relieving.
Overall, the Casper feels more balanced than the Layla and Nectar. The Casper isn’t dominated by any one material. It has a nice mixture of give and lift.
It has an interior layer of zoned support that makes it a great fit for side and combo sleepers.
Layla also offers other models
Are you curious about Layla’s other offerings besides the Layla memory foam mattress. LaylaSleep has many other products and services.
Layla Hybrid
Layla Hybrid, a flippable mattress similar to the all-foam Layla is made with pocketed coils.
This results in a more buoyant and supportive mattress, no matter how it is positioned.
The Layla Hybrid “Firm” could be the right fit for you if you love the Layla brand and need firm support.
The Hybrid is more costly than the Original all foam model in terms of price.
